Hardworking Gentlemen:

CALIFORNIA GETAWAY CHECKLIST

Every hardworking gentleman deserves a break from time to time. One positive from this past year and a half is taking time to explore and adventure close to home. That’s why we want to share some of our favorite ideas for a perfect California getaway weekend. Hopefully, these inspire you to squeeze in one last summer adventure.

Destination #1

SAN DIEGO

Product Highlight: Natural Deodorant

We would be remiss not to mention our hometown. Even if you’re from San Diego, it’s the perfect locale for a staycation. We love taking advantage of beach camping. Look for last-minute openings at San Onofre Bluffs, South Carlsbad State Beach, San Elijo State Beach or Silver Strand State Beach. You can book these at Reservecalifornia.com. Want to stay fresh while camping? Don’t forget to bring our Natural Pinewood Deodorant. For day-to-day living in San Diego, our go-to is a base layer of our Texturizing Hair Sea Salt Spray finished with medium hold hair clay.

Destination #2

SANTA BARBARA

Product Highlight: Firm Hold Hair Wax

Looking to venture a little farther from home? Nothing beats a beach road trip up to Santa Barbara. Rent a house or stay in a hotel along the beach. Every time we visit, we fall back in love with Santa Barbara. Enjoy a hike up to Inspiration Point followed by brunch on the beach at The Boathouse at Hendry’s Beach. On your way home Sunday, make sure to stop for lunch or dinner at The Jolly Oyster in Ventura. You can enjoy deliciously fresh shellfish right on the sand at San Buenaventura State Beach Park. For a road trip (especially if you want to lower the top on that convertible), we recommend our Firm Hold Hair Wax. Like all HWG products, our wax is made of all-natural ingredients. It’s sturdy enough to keep your hair in place no matter what kind of wind and weather comes your way. Since everything in our wax is natural, it will easily wash out as soon as you hit the shower.

Destination #3

NAPA VALLEY

Product Highlight: Medium Hold Hair Wax

Itching to get on a plane after a year of quarantine? Head up to San Francisco, rent a car and head to Napa. Nothing beats a fun weekend of wine tasting and gorging on delicious food. If you’re not into the stuffy Napa vibe but love wine (like us!), check out Scribe Winery. Make sure to make reservations and you’ll find out soon enough why this is one of our Napa favorites. Don’t forget about the amazing bakeries in Napa — our personal favorite is Bouchon Bakery. Don’t miss out on the lemon tart, although everything is delicious. If you’re looking to splurge, we would highly recommend staying at the Auberge du Soleil. For a weekend trip to Napa, make sure to pack our Texturizing Hair Sea Salt Spray and Medium Hold Hair Clay to give that casual California style.

Destination #4

SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK

Product Highlight: Natural Body Wash

Looking to ditch the city vibe and get in touch with nature? We love the five-hour drive up to Sequoia National Park. Seeing the giant redwoods always takes our breath away. Don’t miss out on seeing the famous 2,000 year-old General Sherman Tree. By volume, it’s the largest tree in the world with a diameter at the base of over 36 feet and standing 275 feet high. There are plenty of hikes in the park including Lakes Trail, one of our favorites. If you can find an opening, stay at Wuksachi Lodge, the only hotel in the park. Given the low humidity and wind, our Texturizing Hair Sea Salt Spray with Light Hold Hair Paste is the perfect product. Make sure to pack our Natural Body Wash, you’ll want it after a long day of hiking.

Destination #5

CATALINA ISLAND

Product Highlight: Medium Hold Hair Clay

Looking to get on the water but too busy for a trip to Hawaii? Take the ferry to Avalon and stay in a cute bed and breakfast. If you’re looking for something a little more rugged, we suggest making the trek out to Two Harbors on the western side of the island where you can either camp or stay in one of the boutique hotels. Catalina offers a wide variety of water activities including guided kayak tours, glass bottom boat rides, snorkel tours, and fishing charters. For the more land inclined folks, take one of the guided nature tours where you can see bison grazing in the wild. These bison are direct descendants of the bison that were left on the island by a movie crew nearly a century ago. For a weekend on Catalina, we would recommend our Medium Hold Hair Clay to keep you looking sharp for that ferry selfie on the way to paradise.
